Tide Antibacterial Fabric Spray Review

Tide Antibacterial Spray

Christmas cleanup might be our least favourite time of the year. With the excitement of the season already gone, we’re left out on our own with months of cold and winter ickiness ahead of us. We spied Tide’s Antibacterial Fabric Spray in Costco’s cleaning aisle during our last visit, and with 2020 still on our minds, we didn’t hesitate to bring a couple bottles home. It’s quickly become a key part of our arsenal in our war against household germs.

The handy spray bottle is decked out in Tide’s signature colors, clad in orange with a royal blue top. The spray is not directly a laundry product, but it’s a great complement to your normal clothes wash routine and a great new tool for any other fabrics you’ll find around the house.

Tide Antibacterial Spray is certified to kill 99.9% of bacteria, including a slew of nasty stuff like salmonella and E. coli. A quick spray promises to eliminate the “yuck you can’t see,” sanitizing and ridding fabrics of odor-causing microorganisms to keep your clothes smelling clean and fresh between washes. It’s also versatile enough to be used on stuff you can’t throw in the laundry, like couches, rugs and curtains.

For such a comprehensive cleaning product it’s also a breeze to use. Do a quick spot clean, then spray it on generously until the fabric is damp (Tide suggests that you use enough that it takes five minutes to dry). Leave it alone while it dries, but you don’t have to take any crazy precautions—it’s non-toxic and safe if kids or pets get their paws on it. Afterwards, your target fabric will be good as new, with no residue or weird crunchy stiffness.

We’ve seen other sanitizing sprays before, but this is the first we’ve seen that is specifically designed for fabrics and soft surfaces. We thought that we’d mostly use this on clothes, and it’s definitely great for that. A quick application will easily give you an extra wear or two. But we’ve actually used it a lot more on all the other stuff we have around the house.

For example, it’s been a godsend for our kids’ stuffed toys, which get (literally) dragged through the mud and can never be washed enough, and pretty much anything our dogs touch when they come inside. We brought one out to the minivan specifically for a couple old seat stains and now it’s there to stay. The spray is just invaluable when it comes to those sticky situations that somehow come up every car ride.

Overall, we can’t get enough of this product. Beyond Tide’s special formula, the 3,000 five-star reviews on Amazon and all that technical stuff, it’s just great for peace of mind. Anytime you notice that Rufus has tracked new dirt onto the carpet or wonder why the kids’ stuffies suddenly have a new funk, you’re going to reach for this and feel a bit better about things. And for $11.99 for a 3-pack, that’s just a great deal.

Butter LONDON 4-Piece Nail Polish Kit Review

Butter LONDON Holiday Set

Nail salons haven’t always been open this year, so lately we’ve taken to doing our own nails at home. We’ve bought polishes from all over through 2020, but this four-piece holiday set from Butter London caught our eye at a recent trip to Costco. At only $19.99 to try four colors of this highly sought after nail polish it was an easy decision!

We’d heard of Butter London before for its fun colors and cheeky descriptions. With a little research we also found that the brand was the original 10-free nail, meaning that it is free from a list of harmful chemicals including things like xylene, camphor, formaldehyde and parabens. It carries through this responsible outlook by being cruelty-free and vegan.

So, we were excited to give this four-piece set a try. Included are two exclusive holiday colors, Iced Lolly and Pash, plus Brolly and London Fog, two colors from this fall’s Zodiac Nail Vault collection (Sagittarius and Aquarius, respectively). An arched nail file also comes included, which is always appreciated.

As always, we cleaned off our nails before starting and, with a couple close friends from our bubble, treated ourselves to a little pampering session. We all came away with personal favorites but loved the mix as a whole.

Brolly is described perfectly on the Butter London site as being “broody.” It’s a deep, dark navy, a perfect pop of color against a light sweater. London Fog has a hint of blue as well, but we’d peg it more as a medium grey. It’s well named—it really evokes that wintery “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” feeling.

The two exclusive colors are a bit more fun. Iced Lolly is a metallic shade slotting in between pink and a pale violet, while Pash is a more fiery, shimmery magenta.

All the polishes were easy to apply, and we found two coats to be the right amount. The first comes on slightly translucent, and the second layers on to full opacity. This was especially noticeable with Pash. We were tempted into a third application for the Iced Lolly swatch but found that it added a few too many brush strokes for our liking.

Two weeks in, we’re also very happy with the durability of the polishes. Our first application is still holding strong, and we haven’t yet had any problems with chipping or flaking.

Butter London’s site has some fun ideas for mixing and matching colors, which we will have to try for our next round! The blues of the London Fog and Brolly seem especially fitting as a pair.

The mini bottles are about half the size of the full bottles (6mL compared to 11mL), but as a seasonal kit they’re perfectly sized. We’ll do a little pre-Christmas refresh with the holiday colors and keep the others stocked away to use through the year.

Get in and get your set soon. The set would make a great stocking stuffer as well! This Costco-exclusive set is an in-store only offer, and quantities are limited. We’re sure they’ll sell out quickly at the value price of $12.99!

Koda 46″ LED Linkable Shop Light with Motion Sensor Review

Koda Shop Lights in Costco

2020 has been the year of staying home, and that means we’ve spent a bunch of extra time and energy upgrading various parts of our house. For us, that’s meant a lot more hours in the garage. We (finally!) cleaned it out and took to using it as a launchpad for various projects we’ve been putting off for years.

All those hours killed our old flickering light bulbs, so we went down the sale aisle at Costco and came home with a cart full of 46” LED shop lights from Koda. We’d seen them at the store before, but the new “linkable” label on the packaging caught our eye this time. At only $29.99, they ended up being one of the best purchases we made all year—good lighting makes such a difference!

The white lights looked sleek and clean out of the box. We were initially a bit wary about the hardware part of the installation, but it turned out to be a breeze. The 3×5-inch beams were light enough to easily handle, which make them a breeze to install whether you’re attaching them directly to a wood beam or hanging them from a higher ceiling. The box comes with everything you need, including a measuring template and hooks and screws and anchors. It even has sticky tape for the remote control mount.

Unlike the older offerings from Koda, these lights are linkable, meaning that you can pair a maximum of six together on one power line and manage everything from just one remote. Getting this software side of things set up was similarly breezy. The smart remote is easy to decipher and use, and allows you to quickly adjust the brightness, dim time and the motion sensor’s sensitivity.

Truth be told, the remote isn’t something you need to use on a daily basis. The motion sensors work great, and the lights come on as soon as you enter the room. They’ve been a real godsend for quick trips in and out of the garage, including hands-full garbage runs. Once you get things set up to your liking, you’ll really only need the remote to prevent the lights from turning off while you’re working on tasks that keep you still.

For our two-car garage we bought six lights. They provided more than enough light for the space. There’s also a handy matrix on the Costco.com product page to see how many lights you should buy depending on the size of your space. The lights are powered by efficient LEDs, which kick out 4200 lumens while drawing only 48 watts. That means they’re plenty bright for any time of day, and they’ll last for up to 50,000 hours.

Tide Pods Hygienic Clean Review

Tide Pods Hygienic Clean

Tide Pods have been on the market since 2012 but somehow, we’ve never gotten around to trying them. Looks like we’re really behind the curve on this, as its listing on Amazon has over 16,500 reviews with an otherworldly 4.8 stars. New to Costco stores is Tide’s latest and greatest innovation — Tide Pods Hygienic Clean, with 10X power. Seeing that they’re now $5 off at Costco until Christmas Eve, we’re excited to finally bring a family pack of these heavy-duty pods home.

Overall, there’s a common theme that becomes quite evident right away — though these look pretty much the same as the Tide Pods you’re used to seeing, there’s an invisible world of difference.

To the eye, the Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty 10X Power PODS are the usual puffed up plastic orbs with pleasing swirls of blue, white and green. Our partner quickly pointed out though that these were plumper than usual, in line with the Power PODS labeling on the box, and are actually twice as big as the regular pods.

What’s stuffed inside though is some extra Tide punch. With 10 concentrated cleaning actives mixed in, this formulation actually has 50% more cleaning power than Tide Original liquid detergent.

But what’s most impressive (and reassuring, given the state of things today) is that this proprietary formula attacks both visible and invisible stains. We usually just think of clothes as being clean once your ketchup and dirt stains are removed, but 70% of the soils on your clothes are actually invisible to the naked eye… meaning that your perception of clean might not actually be a very good one.

Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty PODS get between the fibers of your clothing to clean all the dirt you can’t see, removing gunk all the way down to the microscopic level. This isn’t just more hygienic, it also helps purge your clothes of the microbes that allow BO to linger on old shirts and sweaters. Tide has really gone the extra mile here to ensure that these pods live up to their claim of being the number one stain and odor fighter detergent among single-use pacs.

All the technical stuff aside, does it work? Well they’ve certainly won us over in our household tests. Even the heaviest food stains and muddy paw prints come right out, and we’ll trust our noses on the invisible stains as well. Our clothes are noticeably less smelly, popping out of the laundry with that signature floral-fruity Tide scent and holding onto it for an incredibly long time. Our white towels are the true barometer of success: they come out fluffier and whiter than we’ve seen them in a while.

They also do great with large loads, or with hot or cold water—there’s really nothing we’ve thrown at it so far that it hasn’t passed with flying colors (har har).

For those with new high-efficiency (HE) washing machines, we also tried this out on Grandma’s new unit and the results are just as good. As advertised, these work in any machine, making laundry just a delightfully no-fuss chore.

In our house we’ve never really had any loyalty to one detergent over another, but I think we may have been converted with these pods. Easy to use and effective in every situation, we’ll be stocking up on these while the discount lasts.

Premier Protein Café Latte Review

Premier Protein Cafe Latte in Cart

Our favorite protein shake, Premier Protein®, is finally bringing its beloved café latte flavor to all Costco stores. If you haven’t yet heard of the brand, where have you been hiding? The Costco.com product page for the protein shakes is closing in on 20,000 reviews, with almost 17,000 customers giving the drink five stars. We were ecstatic when we heard they were shipping us some samples—we’ve seen it in other stores over the last year and a half and have been itching to give it a try.

As is our custom, we stacked the ready-to-drink shakes in the fridge when they arrived. This is optional of course, but we’ve found that we like them best chilled. The red-capped bottles were right in line with what we’ve become accustomed to, and the numbers on the front confirmed that it was nutritionally identical to the main shake line: 30g of protein with 160 calories, 1g of sugar and 3g of fat. It’s also free of gluten and no artificial growth hormones were used to produce the milk for the protein and packed with 24 vitamins and minerals.

The next morning, we cracked open a shake with our partner and did our usual taste test. It went down as smooth as the others, this one creamy and true to its advertised coffee flavor. We’re also happy to report that it isn’t overly sweet, which is something we’re always wary of with flavors like this.

Unlike the other brothers and sisters in its product line, the café latte flavor packs a bit of an extra punch with the equivalent caffeine content of one cup of coffee. It’s a natural addition, saving us the mini-hassle of juggling the shake alongside our morning cuppa Joe. Just keep that in mind when serving the kids.

Our partner had the bright idea to serve this over ice to simulate a true iced latte, but the beauty of this drink is that you can enjoy it whether you’re sipping slowly at home or running frantically between meetings and errands. It’s so versatile that it really helps eliminate any excuses you have for incorporating it in your daily routine. We’ve found that one 11oz bottle helps keep the hunger pangs away, so it’s great for helping get through mornings, as a quick midday top-up or really anything in between. It’s also of course great post-workout.

New Flavor - Café Latte

New Flavor – Café Latte

If you’re feeling creative, you can freeze it overnight and thaw it out to drink as a slushie, or even incorporate it into your baking. The Premier Protein site has recipes for chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles and even cinnamon roll blondies!

The café latte flavor is coming in to replace the peaches and cream flavor, so if you’re a particular fan of those you should stock up while you can. As always, note that these are all a bit different than the Oat version of the shakes, which contain 20g of protein and 7g of fiber.

The nationwide rollout has just happened (with the exception of stores in Utah), so make sure you get your hands on some during your next visit to Costco! We’ve heard that these have been selling out quickly at other chains.
