Costco Food Courts Switching Back to Coke?!

Pepsi to Coke switch

After over a decade of carrying Pepsi products, Costco is switching back to Coke in their stores. The change will bring Coke, Coke Zero, and Diet Coke back to Costco, as well as Sprite instead of the previous Starry brand.

Costco originally made the switch to Pepsi in 2013 as a cost-saving measure, in order to keep the price of their famous hot dog and soda combo at $1.50. At the time, Coke was offering Walmart a better pricing deal that Costco couldn’t match. When Costco asked Coke for the same pricing, Coke refused, leading Costco to pull all Coke products from their stores for an entire month.

This standoff led Coke to lower their pricing on everyday products, allowing Costco to switch back to carrying Coke products.

The switch back to Coke is expected to happen in early 2025. Coke has a much higher focus on the quality of the product coming out of the machine, including guidelines on machine maintenance, syrup mix, and more to ensure a consistently great experience for Costco customers.

While the original switch was a cost-saving measure, the return to Coke products is likely driven by customer preference and Coke’s renewed commitment to quality and partnership with Costco.
