Costco Coupons January 2012 (1/5/2012 – 1/29/2012)

January 2012 Coupon Book Cover

Just out is the new January 2012 Costco coupon book, valid from January 5th to January 29th. You can see the PDF in my google documents by clicking the link. It will also allow you to download it. The book seems to be the normal assortment of snacks, cleaning supplies and beauty products. There is a Sony 3D Blu-Ray player with WiFi that should be around $105 after coupon. It seems to have all the features you could ask for, I believe the model is a BDP-BX58, which is Costco specific. There are some sweet potato fries which I have heard very mixed reviews on. For myself I may pick up the Special K bars, but that is probably about it. Also, the tire coupon is back to Michelin, and it does not include the extra $30 off of installation that the last two books have had.

Remember, at most locations you can grab a book at your membership counter if you never got it mailed to you and at some locations the cashier will have the coupon there and automatically scan it for you. I  heard they are getting more strict on this though. Perhaps to encourage the new coupon email signup program. These coupons will not work in store, as you need the barcode. Have you tried any of the items in this coupon book? What did you think?

Costco Prime Rib Roast

Prime Rib Roast

Every Christmas Holiday season Costco carries a bunch of prime rib roasts in store at great prices. Be like us and skip the Christmas turkey or ham to have something really tasty. These prime cuts of beef come pre-seasoned and oiled, with whole garlic cloves throughout. As for the “Prime” designation, this is only given to less than 2 percent of all beef in the U.S. The signature of this meat is that it’s young and with the best marbling.

Prices start at $9.99/lb for the Choice Seasoned Prime Rib (bone-in) and $16.99 for Prime Seasoned Prime Rib (bone-in). If you can wait and are fast on your feet, you can buy these cuts after Christmas and New Years for about $3.99/lb. As you might imagine, they will often sell out within the first hour of being discounted.

We’ve enjoyed this on many occasions and found the meat to be of high quality. As garlic lovers, we find the seasoning and whole garlic cloves to be excellent. Another perk is that it’s all ready to put in the oven once it’s brought home from Costco, so it makes cooking the meal that much easier.

Need to complete the meal? Pair the prime roast with a hearty red wine, like a full-bodied cabernet sauvignon or petite sirah. Costco has increased their wine department over the last few years, so you’re bound to find a few excellent bottles in your price range.

Have you tried their prime rib? Did you have the choice or the prime, and what did you think?

Costco Christmas Trees

Costco Pre Lit Color Christmas Tree

Read my 2012 Costco Christmas Tree update now.

Costco carries a variety of Christmas trees in stores. There are pre-lit artifical Christmas trees, as well as real fresh-cut trees. Unfortunately not very many stores carry the real trees, which is a bummer because they are a great deal. For the artifical, they carry 7.5 ft and 9.5 ft with white lights as well as 7.5 ft in color lights. These 7.5′ white GE made trees include a foot pedal switch, 1,000 lights, tree stand, Constant ON lights, and are Colorado Spruce priced at $250. The 9.5′ is similar, with more lights. The 7.5′ multi-color artificial pre-lit also has a price of $250, but is made by Westinghouse, has only 630 lights, is LED, and also has a stand.

Costco Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

7.5′ white GE artificial pre lit tree

I will give my review of the 2011 7.5′ white Costco pre lit christmas tree. Most importantly, we are very happy with our purchase. My favorite part was how easy it was to set up. From the time I opened the box it was completely up in 3 minutes. The branches were already fluffed and connected, the lights were on it and the stand was easy. I connected the top, middle, and bottom and plugged it in and I was done. With past artificial trees I’ve had to sort all the branches by letter (size), connect them one by one, and then string lights. An hour and a half later I was done, instead of three minutes it took with this one. And on top of all of that, this tree looks much better and more realistic. While we wish it had LED lights, we still think it is worth every penny spent.

Costco Christmas Tree Truck

Costco employees unload trees from trailer

Costco carries fresh cut trees at select locations. In the Bay Area region they ship them in from Oregon. At our local Costco they arrived on Dec. 1st, and sold out within a week. The price was $45 for a 7′ – 8′ noble fir. I’m sure tree prices vary across the country, but in the Bay Area trees like these would normally sell for $70 to $80. As you can see by the photo, it’s a beautiful tree as well. Our local location had 1,000 trees trailered in, and as I mentioned earlier, they sold out quick. You can pay for the tree at the register, drive your car to the trailer, show them the receipt and they’ll load it and tie it on to your car for you. They claim the tree was cut down within the last week. One downfall is that you can’t really see what the tree looks like until you take it home, unlike a tree lot. I suppose that’s where Costco’s excellent return policy comes in handy. You can have it opened once you buy though, it just makes it harder to take home once opened. Did you get a Costco Christmas tree? What do you think?

Costco Cyber Monday 2011

Costco Cyber Monday 2011

Cyber Monday is here and Costco.com is having a special sale to celebrate. View the Cyber Monday deals here. Most deals are good for the whole week, but supplies are limited and once they run out the deal is over. Some are only good for today though, so check it out quickly. There has been talk about the deal on the Zuvo water filtration system at only$99 and a deal on a Dyson vacuum is always worth mentioning. Nothing else sticks out to me and I won’t be getting anything. What about you? Picking up anything?

Costco Coupons December 2011 (12/1/11 – 12/18/11)

Take a look at the December 2011 Costco coupon book, which is valid from December 1st to December 18th. Clicking the link will allow you to view it or download it from my google documents. Items of note include a Panasonic Blu-Ray player, some quiches and egg rolls for holiday party appetizers, Nexxus shampoo and conditioner, and I’ve heard good things about the Olympus DSLR camera. For me personally, I am very underwhelmed. The Panasonic Blu-Ray player sounds interesting, as does the DiGiorno pizza pack, but that’s about it. Once again they have the Bridgestone tires coupon which includes the $30 off installation deal again.

Remember, at most locations you can grab a book at your membership counter if you never got it mailed to you and at some locations the cashier will have the coupon there and automatically scan it for you. I  heard they are getting more strict on this though. Perhaps to encourage the new coupon email signup program. Hope you enjoy the book, a list of items is after the break.

Krusteaz Salted Caramael Chocolate Cookie Mix Review

Krusteaz salted caramel chocolate cookie mix box
A new product recently hit the Costco warehouse shelves: Krusteaz Chocolate Salted Caramel Cookies. Having bought other mixes by the same company and been pleased, the expectations were high.

They definitely didn’t disappoint. They were chewy, gooey and oh-so-chocolatey! It also helps that they were easy to make. The cookies were put together in about five minutes before popping them in the oven. We brought them over to a friend’s house and everyone was impressed by the taste and that they weren’t just your every day chocolate chip variety.

So tasty!

There were a few drawbacks to this product. First, there wasn’t enough caramel in the single pack to adequately fill our first batch of cookies. Second, you can make two batches per box, and the first box made just over two dozen, which was more than we wanted to make. Scarfing down a couple extra cookies is really the least of our problems.

Have you tried these?

Costco Black Friday 2011 Ads

Costco Black Friday 2011ad-cover

Fresh off the presses is Costco’s 2011 Black Friday ad. Clicking that link will allow you to view it or download it. Many of us Costco faithfuls like to do as much of our shopping as possible at Costco and considering Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, we need to know what deals, if any, are to be had. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like there are any loss leaders for Costco in this coupon book, nor much to be excited about. Most of the items are of the Christmas gift variety. The ad does seem to focus on electronics, with good prices on the espresso machine and the Nikon point and shoot camera (80% off). I do not feel the urge to fight the lines on Black Friday to get anything here. The good news is also that the ad runs throughout the weekend (til the 27th), so you can miss the Black Friday morning rush. The store will open an hour early, at 9am over the three day weekend. And if you’re lucky, Costco will be passing out some holiday cookbooks as well. The regular November coupon book will also be valid at the same time, so if you haven’t seen that check it out. Anything you see in here that is a must have for you? Or perhaps looks like a good deal to you?
