Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get my turkey at Costco?

Almost all of the grocery store prices mentioned above are for frozen turkey. Fresh turkeys are going to taste better. Organic or seasoned/brined turkey will likely be least expensive at Costco as well. You know you’re getting a premium grade high quality turkey at Costco for a great price.

What is a fresh turkey?

When it’s labeled as fresh that means it wasn’t frozen. Technically that means that it wasn’t chilled below 26 degrees Fahrenheit.  A frozen turkey will have been taken to 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

Will the turkey be clearanced?

Yes, typically if there are any birds leftover they will be clearanced on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). We’re sure they’ll go quickly though.

What’s the difference between a Tom turkey and a Hen turkey?

Experts say that Hen tastes better than Tom. Hens are smaller at less than 16 lbs while Toms always weigh over 16 lbs. Toms have larger bones and less edible portions.

What’s the latest I can get a turkey?

Wednesday November 21st before 8:30pm. Costco is closed on Thanksgiving.

What other Thanksgiving foods should I also get at Costco?

Obviously the $5.99 pumpkin pie. Can you believe Costco makes 6 million of them a year? Hawaiian rolls and dinner rolls are usually a good buy. You can also get prepared mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes in the deli section (which judging by the pictures below look pretty darn good!)
