Mixed berry is good and reasonably priced!

  2. […] I got the call that gelato was in my local Costco and I rushed over there to try it.  The line was long and the customers were going crazy, but I […]

They do not have it at my costco yet, and i was quite disappointed. I didn’t head home empty handed though — I grabbed a chicken bake and mocha freeze before making my way back to the office. Can’t wait for it to hit the Inland Empire!

we have the costco gelato in my local store (danville, ca). i am a huge costco fan and think they are one of the, if not the, smartest retailers in the country. i love the food court and am known (my wife thinks i’m nuts!) for going to costco just to get my special $3 lunch of a kosher hot dog, soda and frozen yogurt. i’m also a huge gelato fan and having grown up on the east coast really miss having really good gelato all over the place. california gelato is mostly macrobiotic, free range, nuclear free stuff that costs $5 a scoop…i’m from new jerey, ’nuff said.

anyway, when i saw the banner up front about the ‘made fresh daily’ gelato i was very excited. now that i’ve tried it a couple of times, i am very disappointed to report that neither my wife, my son nor i think the costco gelato is very good. inexpensive yes, but worth the purchase, i don’t think so. we have tried the chocolate chip and mixed berry flavors twice now and find the taste hard to describe…not like good gelato, more grainy than smooth texture, and at least the stuff we bought tasted almost like it had freezer burn (which would be impossible as it is advertised as made fresh daily). i am going to give it one more try to see whether we just got a really bad batch (of both flavors) but otherwise i’d have to say that so far the costco gelato is a rare ‘miss’ for this otherwise great retailer.

Just had a scoop of each flavor at the Vegas Costco location! Had no idea Costco even had gelato as an offering at their food courts since it hasn’t hit the southern CA markets yet (Orange County & Inland Empire). I really enjoyed the pistachio & berry flavors most. Please bring gelato to my local stores soon! It’s a great treat for $1.50! Wish I could have gone back again before leaving Vegas.

Just had a gelato it today. Great product and great price! … Honolulu

  8. Brian Lee says:

Had it for the first time yesterday. quart of mixed berry in my fridge, got a pistachio waffle cone there. Best Pistachio ever. I wish they’d raise the price of the cone tho, and sell the quarts inside. The line is already super long at the Hawaii / Iwilei location. $1.50 + they gotta go hand scoop it? lol. but yes…amazing treat, at an amazing price!

  9. jz says:

    It’s @ the Honolulu store – Iwilei.

  10. JV says:

@Brian Lee: They would have to raise the cone’s price to $4 for most people to think twice about buying it. I’ve visited the Honolulu location twice in the last month and both times they were sold out of cones. I know how you feel..,

The Hawaii Kai Costco is closing its food court for ‘repairs’ from Jan. 24 – Jan. 30th…maybe they’re gonna add the batch freezers for making gelato??

  12. Muffin says:

Wow, I loved the Costco gelato. I enjoyed the pistachio and strachiatella (they ran out of mixed berry) and it was delicious. Takes me back to the summer where I enjoyed gelato in Italy on a daily basis. I hope the gelato makes it to our local costco soon.

  13. Terry T says:

they sell gelato at one of the houston locations (Richmond) and I love it.

  17. Chris says:

No gelato in Temecula or Lake Elsinore either? Help me out costco. I tried it at Carmel Mountain and it is fantastic! I wish you would get it at more locations, I know it would be a hit.

  18. AsktheWhiteGuy says:

Gelato is offered only at Costco’s in “upscale” areas. Let the rest of them eat ice cream.

Visiting family in Texas. I love gelato. I had some at the Houston,
Texas Costco and it was delicious. It was a real treat to see gelato
there. None of the Costco’s in my area sell gelato. Costco, I live in
the San Gabriel Valley in California. Would you please consider selling
Gelato at the San Dimas Costco in San Dimas, California. I know it
would be a big hit among the San Dimas residents, the Pride of the
Foothill Glendora residents, and other local city residents. Thank you
in advance Costco for your consideration. I am a very happy Costco
shopper who would be even happier if your brought gelato to my local
Costco in San Dimas, California. Thanks again.

  26. Ahh Coffee says:

Woodinville Costco food court gelato has much smaller servings now than shown or what was once served. Given that the lines there are also now much slower and the tables dirtier that they were, it now makes sense to get the kids ice cream at other places.

  27. Sue says:

I’m not a fan of chocolate so once was enough. The stracciatella and pistachio on the other hand is a whole different story! The sweet creaminess of the stracciatella is like that of Boston cream, with crunchy ribbons of chocolate blended throughout. The pistachio tastes like; PISTACHIOS! It’s become a habit on these long, hot summer days, and you can’t beat $1.50 for a three scoop cone. TAKE THAT BASKIN ROBBINS!!!

  28. Rex D. says:

Please offer this at the Commerce, California location!

  29. Seamomma says:

Please bring gelato to the metro Phoenix area!!! Our family loves it every trip to San Diego,CA and Orem, UT. But that’s too long of a drive just for gelato, even though I think about it often. 😉
