Costco Carne Asada Bake Review

Carne Asada Bake

I have heard nothing but amazing reviews about the Carne Asada bake.  A Costco employee was quick to say, “It’s the best thing they’ve got in the food court.”  The reviews I read online all say how amazing it is, with posts such as, “CARNE ASADA BAKE!!!  SOOO GOOD!!!!”  Needless to say, my expectations were pretty high.  I hate to say it, but I was a little disappointed.  There was not that much flavor.  I didn’t feel like there was very much cheese in it.  My spouse tried it as well, and also had a similar reaction, but she also had high expectations.  On the other hand, my brother tried it and loved it, but he had no expectations.  So, my spouse gave it a 5 out of 10 and I rate it 6 out of 10.  Just for all of my readers I will go to another Costco and give it another try tomorrow.  Maybe they were having a bad day at the Costco I went to!  You can find a list of Costcos that carry the carne asada bake on my earlier post.

It wasn’t too bad. I like it over the chicken bake. I find the chicken bake extremely dry, and I generally have to eat it with mustard. The Carne Asada bake was moister, I attributed that because it has a lot of moisture in it with the ingredients listed as beef, pico de gallo, and guacamole, as well as cheese. I found that mine was extremely cheesy and not a lot of beef. A lot of it had a lot of grease dripping out of it. But I found it was indeed tasty enough. I just started a diet and so I have to be really careful about how much I eat. So I ended up eating half of it and saved the other half for later as I am being diet conscious. I agree with the rating of 6 out of 10 and maybe a 6.5 out of 10.

I was just at the Park Meadows Costco, and tried the Carne Asada Bake, big disappointment! I immediately sent feedback to the Costco website, and asked for the turkey wrap to return, or at least put something on the menu that’s a reasonable replacement, and tastes good. I had high expectations, and this was no where close. There was no cheese to speak of in the one I had. There were a few tomatoes, some guacamole and a lot of dough. I found the hispanic ingredients in a pizza crust quite unusual. Colorado has some great Mexican restaurants, and this just doesn’t make sense. Turkey, lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo in a wrap, that made sense. I know Costco can do better! Send the Carne Asada Bake back to the drawing board, and just away.

This is probably my new favorite food to eat.
It’s AMAZING. It tastes GREAT! I love it so much!

I think the calories are so high because of the huge portion sizes that Costco serves. The Turkey wrap is done in by the cheese. I usually take the cheese off. I also split it with my wife. One half of the turkey wrap is more than enough. I buy the pints of gelato instead of the cones. The cones are way too big. We take the pint home and the whole family can enjoy. A look at the nutritional PDF as well as the portion sizes and there should be no wonder why American’s are overweight. I mean, most people should be eating about 2,000 calories per day. One ice cream bar has 900 calories and 65 grams of fat!!! But I digress and that is another discussion all together.

  6. Robert says:

Yes, quite bland. I was disappointed. I wonder if Costco has bothered to do any market research by area before offering this in the southern California area? Unlike the heartland, we actually like flavor and spice in our food.

  7. Donna says:

basically a mexican pot pie. Not really that good…

  8. Steve T. says:

A coworker just brought some of these back to the office. I have to say, it sounded like a good idea, but, the reality was very disappointing! The carne asada bake was very bland, and mushy. I’ll stick with the chicken bake, or a hot dog over this mess!

Today I tried the Carne Asada Bake and I was also disappointed. I was expecting more flavor. Probably won’t try it again. Suspect it is very high in calories.

I like the Chicken Bake, was disappointed by the Carne Asada, but LOOOOOVED the Bulgogi Bake.

  11. Jake says:

I had one and was expecting greatness. It did not deliver. I thought maybe it sat under the heat lamp a little too long, but I have not had the courage for a re-match. It was a real dissapointment. The carne tasted like it had been through more than it should have. Since I live in San Diego where “taco shop” mexican food is a right of passage here, I thought maybe I was a bit too harsh, but after reading some of the reviews on this site, I can see that I am not alone.

  12. Jen says:

It was disappointing. It has mostly bland white flour and not enough salsa, dressing, veggie and meat in the middle. It has a lot of empty calories, but not the flavor and nutrition to make them worthwhile.

  13. JimJam says:

Tried it today; IMO it is not up to Costco standards.
    – The carne asada itself is OK
    – Too much bread (and it belongs on tortilla)
    – Too much cheese
    – Pico de Gallo and Guacamole s/b served cool for flavor contrast
I will not order it again.

  14. Shane says:

Poor flavor, very little cheese, too much bread, the parts that didn’t have excess breading were soggy. Pico de Gallo and Guacamole not very good. Overall I won’t try it a second time.

  15. momz says:

Its just gross. Meat tastes nuked, veggies are water logged, disgusting is an understatement. I cant find any guacamole flavor for the life of me. These are just plain inedible and can’t compare to a turkey wrap whatsoever. I bet people are mad about this decision.

  16. Mary says:

Definitely a “miss”. Tried it today with much anticipation. Yuk!

  17. Julie says:

Tried carne asada wrap one time. Will not make that mistake again. I give it a 2 out of 10. I couldn’t even eat the whole thing despite being extremely hungry at the time. Sad choice to replace the chicken bake, which I thought was pretty tasty. A soggy, mushy mess. Ick.

  18. David Craig says:

Terrible! First time Costco has made a major food mistake. Tasteless wonder wrapped in calories with all the looks and flavor of a dog’s vomit. don’t mistake this intrusion with the chicken and bake wrap which is very yummy! The Carne Asada Bake mess–if you like this you would also like French Snails! It’s absolutely terrible–and I will tell you this. A Costco worker warned me that it was bad 12 months ago but my curiosity finally gave way and I bought one. I wish I had my four backs back because now it’s lieing in the trash. Rock bottom product and not even a whopping spoon of sour cream and good salsa would save it. Four letters for this one. YUCK!

are you kidding me maybe you should clean your mouth first ,maybe your mouth taste like dog vomit .terrible .it’s amazing love it love it love it

Your review provides a clear picture of how well you meet the Costco majority target demographic. Therefore I find your review valid, although I don’t personally agree with you.

  19. Realcritic says:

I like it. Its really good, specially for $4.00, all you negative comments about how bad it is and want your money back, should go to a highend restaurant and buy a beef welligton for about 60.00 a plate so you can satisfy your taste buds.

  20. Kj2602 says:

I had one today at the Costco in Grandville, Michigan. I thought it was good…and for $3.79 plus $.59 for a pop (soda for those of you in weird parts of the country), it was much better than a burgerwhop.
It would be better if they had a condiment bar to add “stuff” to salsa, jalapenos, habaneros, and hot sauce would bring the flavor alive on this item.
But even without…it was a good deal for a good price. Served with tortilla chips and salsa would make it a home run.

  21. […] and pesto. It is baked in the oven and serverd hot. I believe it is replacing the short-lived carne asada bake. The price is $3.99. I will add more details such as locations and calories as I get them. Also […]

its so good!! whats wrong with you all?!?! i have withdrawls, i cant find it anymore. No one’s saying its healthy, i liken it more to crack or heroin. Now that im addicted i dont knwo what to do i need help.

  23. so, having just discovered this site, need to throw in my two cents worth… Having had great Carne Asada, this product would not be put into that listing. Perhaps it was the location doing something wrong, perhaps solar flares? There was no real flavor. The spices were lost, the veggies were nearly non-existent (or at least there was no crunch to them.) Having enjoyed the chicken bake for years, I was really hoping this would be done right.
Costco Kitchens needs to enlist some help for this one… I had no preconceptions on this…
No hype from staff… just a very disappointing purchase.
I’ll stick with the Polish and a soda for now…
